Punjab Police is moving to tighten identification procedures at police stations with the introduction of a new verification system aimed at improving transparency and record accuracy.
Under the initiative, developed in coordination with the National Database and Registration Authority, biometric verification will be made mandatory for both complainants and suspects.
Authorities said entries will not be processed without completing the verification step. The directive includes activation of a biometric module within the Police Station Record Management System, with all stations instructed to ensure device availability within seven days.
Police officials have been asked to review existing equipment and confirm operational readiness, while the system will also be used to record attendance of police personnel.
The move is intended to streamline identification processes and strengthen accountability across police stations. The Inspector General (IG) Punjab office has directed that a compliance report be submitted within the stipulated timeframe.
