The Sindh Sports Department has approved a plan to convert 10 sports complexes across the province into cricket clubs as part of a wider push to strengthen the game at the grassroots level.
The decision was taken during an important meeting chaired by Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar, where officials also discussed the formation of a Sindh team for the Pakistan Cup in collaboration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Former Pakistan cricketers Younis Khan and Sadiq Mohammad also took part in the meeting and gave input on the future structure of the initiative.
Officials said the move is aimed at identifying and promoting emerging cricket talent from different parts of Sindh. The new cricket clubs are expected to create more playing opportunities for young cricketers and help establish a clearer pathway for development and competition.
During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on merit-based selection for the proposed Sindh side, with authorities stressing that deserving players from across the province should be given a fair chance.
The plan to upgrade sports complexes into cricket clubs is also expected to expand access to organized cricket and improve the local system for player grooming.
By opening new club memberships, the department hopes to bring more young players into the structure and strengthen Sindh’s presence in domestic cricket.
