Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday inaugurated work on the rehabilitation of Sakhi Hassan Road in North Nazimabad, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the city’s infrastructure.
Speaking at the ceremony, he said the project falls under a wider plan to construct and rehabilitate 26 roads and streets across Karachi. He said development work worth Rs. 68 billion is currently underway in the city to address long-standing infrastructure and traffic issues.
The mayor said several projects, including Shahrah-i-Noor Jahan, have already been completed, while work is continuing on major routes such as Sher Shah Suri Road. He also highlighted the Shahrah-i-Bhutto project from Qayyumabad to Kathore in Gadap Town, saying it would significantly improve traffic flow in Karachi.
Providing details, he said the Sakhi Hassan Road project will cost around Rs. 140 million and includes road rehabilitation, drainage upgrades and related civic works.
The road will be converted into a dual carriageway spanning approximately 0.883 kilometres with a width of 30 feet, while a drainage line of the same length will also be repaired.
He said rainwater from nearby hilly areas had previously caused problems for Sakhi Hassan Graveyard and surrounding localities, including Shadman. The new drainage system is expected to address these issues and improve conditions for residents.
