Murad Ali Shah has approved the Karachi Safe City Project Phase-II, aiming to strengthen security and surveillance across the city through advanced technology.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting attended by senior officials, including the home minister, chief secretary, and police leadership.
Over 2,300 smart cameras planned
Under Phase-II, authorities will install more than 2,300 smart cameras across Karachi, including:
- 870 cameras for general surveillance
- 1,300 cameras with facial and number plate recognition
- 80 cameras for traffic enforcement
- 56 mobile surveillance units
- 8 cameras for traffic signal monitoring
Cameras will be deployed across multiple districts, including South, East, Korangi, Keamari, Malir, and West.
Advanced security infrastructure
The project, costing Rs9.98 billion, is expected to be completed within 12 months and formally launched in May 2026. It also includes:
- Surveillance towers and drones
- Public panic buttons
- Response vehicles
- Backup power systems
- Integrated command and control centers
- Focus on safety and modernization
Murad Ali Shah said the project is a key investment in public safety and crime prevention, adding that modern technology will enhance law enforcement capacity and improve traffic management and emergency response.
He also directed authorities to ensure timely completion and approved transparent recruitment for the Sindh Safe City Authority.
The government is also considering expanding Safe City projects to other cities, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad, under an integrated provincial security system.
