The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has seized 16,400 kilograms of fungus-infested and substandard pickles during a raid on a manufacturing unit in Muzaffargarh, preventing their distribution in the market.
According to a PFA spokesperson, officials carried out a surprise inspection at a pickles and preserves unit on Alipur Road, where they discovered large quantities of contaminated pickles stored in chemical drums under highly unhygienic conditions.
Authorities immediately disposed of the hazardous stock and imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the unit owner for violating food safety regulations.
The unsafe products were reportedly intended for supply to grocery stores and supermarkets, posing serious health risks to consumers.
The PFA Director General reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against those compromising public health for profit, vowing strict and continued action against food safety violations.
Citizens have been encouraged to report complaints about unsafe food through the PFA helpline 1223 or official social media channels to ensure prompt action.
