The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance (PGTA) has announced a 40% reduction in freight fares, following a recent cut in fuel prices by the government.
PGTA President Malik Shahzad Awan confirmed the decision, welcoming the government’s move to lower petroleum prices and expressing hope for further reductions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently reduced fuel prices to ease economic pressure. Petrol prices were cut by Rs11.83 per liter, while diesel saw a significant decrease of Rs134.81 per liter, bringing immediate relief to the transport sector.
Despite the fare reduction, transporters urged the government to lower toll taxes and withholding taxes, calling for additional support from both federal and provincial authorities.
Industry representatives said reducing the tax burden would help sustain lower freight costs and further ease inflationary pressures on goods and essential commodities.
The fare cut is expected to lower transportation costs nationwide, potentially bringing down prices of goods and benefiting consumers.
