Avoid These Roads in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to Save Time

Motorists in Islamabad and Rawalpindi may want to plan alternate routes, as security restrictions and road closures continued to disrupt traffic in the twin cities on Sunday.

Islamabad Police announced that the Red Zone and adjoining areas would remain closed, with entry allowed only for official vehicles. According to the traffic advisory, commuters should avoid Serena Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Club Road, Murree Road, and Expressway at various times from morning until late night.

Police said traffic moving from Kashmir Chowk towards Serena Chowk and Srinagar Highway would remain closed. People coming from Bhara Kahu have been advised to enter the city through Club Road via Kashmir Chowk, while those travelling from Murree Road can reach Bhara Kahu through Club Road and Kashmir Chowk.

The advisory also said Srinagar Highway would remain shut from the Seventh Avenue Bridge to Serena Chowk. However, both sides of the road from Zero Point to the Seventh Avenue flyover will stay open. Commuters heading to G-6, G-7, and Chand Tara Chowk can use the Seventh Avenue intersection.

Meanwhile, some routes remain open, including Faisal Avenue, Margalla Road, Nawaz Chowk to F-7 Markaz, Khayaban Chowk towards Blue Area, Nazimuddin Road towards F-6 and F-7, and Fazl-i-Haq Road towards G-6 and G-7.

The restrictions were linked to the movement of foreign delegates who took part in the recent US-Iran talks, with sources saying the Red Zone would stay closed until all expert delegates leave the capital.

The situation also created confusion in Rawalpindi, where markets near Nur Khan Airbase, Peshawar Road, Saddar, and Raja Bazaar remained shut for much of the day despite the departure of foreign delegations.

Traders said the shutdown exposed poor coordination between the administration and police. In some areas, shopkeepers were first told to reopen, only to be ordered to shut down again shortly afterwards. Business groups said repeated closures over the last four days had already caused financial losses.

Residents also reported shortages of daily-use items in some streets, while commuters complained of delays caused by containers and diversions near airport-linked roads.
