South African batter Rilee Rossouw has taken a subtle dig at the Indian Premier League (IPL), suggesting it leans more toward entertainment, while describing the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 as a more competitive cricketing tournament.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Rossouw said both leagues have their own strengths and weaknesses, noting that the IPL is a longer tournament, while the PSL is shorter and more intense. He added that the compact format of the PSL makes the competition more fierce.
“The IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood behind it, so it’s a lot more of a movie than actual cricket,” Rossouw said.
His remarks come as the PSL continues to gain recognition for developing and showcasing talent. Several players who featured in the PSL, including Luke Wood, Tim Seifert, Kyle Jamieson, Jordan Cox, Ben Dwarshuis, Jason Holder and Finn Allen, were picked up by IPL franchises for the 2026 season, reinforcing the league’s reputation as a strong platform for talent identification.
Moreover, several overseas players have also rated the PSL highly in recent years. Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis opted out of the IPL and registered their names for the PSL auction ahead of the 2026 season.
Rossouw is currently representing Quetta Gladiators in PSL 11. He has scored 79 runs in four innings so far, averaging 19.75 with a strike rate of 111.26.
In their most recent match, Quetta Gladiators defeated Rawalpindiz by 61 runs, with Rossouw scoring a half-century and the team delivering a disciplined bowling performance.
Chasing a target of 184, Rawalpindiz were bowled out for 121 in 17.3 overs. Saad Masood scored 31, Daryl Mitchell added 30, and Yasir Khan made 22, while Abdullah Fazal contributed 20. The remaining batters failed to reach double figures.
For Quetta, Usman Tariq, Jahandad Khan and captain Saud Shakeel claimed two wickets each, while Kashif Bhatti and Abrar Ahmed picked up one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Quetta Gladiators posted 182 for six in 20 overs after recovering from an early setback, losing opener Sam Harper for eight runs.
