The Sindh government has approved a series of measures to expand public transport across the province, including the launch of new bus routes and the introduction of additional services.
The decisions were taken during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. During the meeting, officials decided to launch the Peoples Bus Service on the Sukkur–Shikarpur route in the coming week.
The government also plans to distribute pink scooters to women in Sukkur and Hyderabad, with ceremonies to be held soon as part of efforts to improve mobility for women. The meeting further approved the purchase of electric, hybrid and double-decker buses in the next fiscal year to expand the transport network across Sindh, including Karachi.
Officials said new routes will be introduced in Karachi to meet growing demand, while additional services will be launched in other districts in phases. Plans were also discussed to expand bus operations in Hyderabad, including routes from Hyder Chowk to Kohsar and from Hyderabad to Tando Allahyar.
The minister said further expansion of the Peoples Bus Service is planned, including routes from Khairpur to Rohri and Khairpur to Ranipur. He added that work is underway to launch EV taxi and pink taxi services, with charging infrastructure being developed. Authorities aim to complete formalities for the EV taxi service by the end of the month.
