The Sindh government has launched its Solar Home Systems (SHS) Project across four districts, with a ceremony in Khairpur attended by lawmakers, officials and local beneficiaries.
The project, introduced by the Sindh Energy Department under its Special Initiatives for Renewable Energy, aims to distribute 275,000 solar kits free of cost to low-income households in both on-grid and off-grid areas.
The total includes 132,000 off-grid systems and 143,000 on-grid systems, with distribution being carried out by the Sindh Rural Support Organisation. In Khairpur, MPAs Barrister Halar Khan Wassan and Barrister Sheeraz Shaukat Rajpar, along with former MNA Nawab Khan Wassan, handed over mock solar kits to beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, they said the initiative is aimed at expanding access to sustainable energy and supporting households with reliable electricity solutions.
Officials including Additional Secretary Energy Sindh Junaid Iqbal Khan and Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Altaf Chachar attended the ceremony along with representatives of SRSO, district administration and media.
Similar events were held simultaneously in Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot and Shikarpur, with around 100 beneficiaries participating in each district-level ceremony.
Each solar kit includes a 180-watt solar panel, a DC fan, three LED lights, a charge controller, a mobile charging facility and a 50 Ah lithium battery with an inverter, designed to meet basic household energy needs.
That’s enough for one room. But that is certainly not going to stop theft of electricity by illegal settlements which translates to unjustifiable load shedding imposed for those honestly paying the shamelessly excessive electricity bills and over the top taxes. This initiative should have been completed 20 years ago by the ruling party who have been ruling Sindh unchallenged ever since due to questionable voting laws. Infact in the past 20 years Sindh should have already transitioned to solar and wind power plants. But the greed of the OLIGARCHS in the sindh government had them instead impose tyrannical taxes and billing practices on the people of the city forcing them to take the initiative in solar power exploration lowering the market value of solar equipment before showing off their “fake benevolence” to the country side with the cheapest solar panels city taxes can buy so they can pocket the rest. Meanwhile The people in the city who pay for this have their grievance marginalized and neglected.
This project is only for sindh or other provenance will also benefit from this .
