PEMRA Issues Notice Over Fiza Ali’s Viral Morning Show Clip

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has issued a show-cause notice to the CEO of City News Network over allegedly objectionable content aired during a morning show on 24 News.

The action follows a viral clip from the program Mornings with Fiza, featuring host Fiza Ali and her husband, Ejaz Khan. In the clip, Khan is seen lifting Ali over his shoulder, a moment that sparked widespread criticism on social media.

Despite the backlash, Fiza Ali described the incident as a “lighthearted spontaneous gesture” with no negative intent.

However, the clip drew criticism from various quarters, including Hina Parvez Butt, who termed it “regrettable” and urged media figures to uphold decorum.

In its notice, PEMRA stated that the program contained “highly inappropriate comments” and an “obnoxious gesture” aired without proper editorial oversight, violating regulatory guidelines.

The authority has directed the channel’s CEO to appear before it in Islamabad on April 27 and submit a written explanation. It also ordered the network to immediately stop broadcasting such content.

PEMRA warned that failure to comply could result in ex prate proceedings and legal action under relevant regulations.
