The Punjab government has signed an agreement with Pakistan Railways to introduce fast and local train services across the province. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi signed the memorandum of understanding.
Under the plan, a fast train will operate between Lahore and Rawalpindi, reducing travel time to around two hours and fifteen minutes. The project also includes eight local routes spanning about 1,415 kilometers across 20 regions of Punjab.
Officials said trains will run on multiple routes, including Shahdara to Narowal and onward to Sialkot, as well as Raiwind, Kasur, Pakpattan and Lodhran.
Additional services will operate between Sheikhupura, Jaranwala and Shorkot, along with routes linking Lala Musa, Malakwal and Sargodha. Another route will connect Faisalabad with Chak Jhumra and Shahinabad, while an interprovincial service from Kot Addu to Kashmore via Dera Ghazi Khan is also part of the plan.
Hanif Abbasi said the project is expected to benefit around 90 million people and improve rail connectivity across the province.

For reducing time in travel between Rawalpindi and Lahore، you need to replace track which is conducive to derailment of trains time and again۔ furnishing coaches and serving foods in compartments is not the requirement of day۔ preference should be given to improvement of track and it’s security from damaging terrorists to save people from accidents
I fully agree with Altaf. Providing refreshments and refurbishing interiors of coaches is just the cosmetics.
Real issues are the railway tracks.. For old times sake, maybe after 45 years, I happen to travel by ‘Tezgam’. Trust me, there were not just mechanical vibrations but rolling of the coach also especially close to Rawalpindi where we have plenty of turns and curves. At times, had a strong feeling that the coach would overturn.
However, the very thought of connecting small and major cities by railways is a noble old thought, provided it steers clear of corruption and vested interests.
Kia latifa ha Jo pehle se slow speed trainen mojooda han woh tu her Roz. koi nah koi track se neeche utre hoti ha aur chale han Fast Train chalane kia mazaq ha?
Promoting Railways means sustainable development of economy. If fully implemented, I will be fully praise for CM Punjab.
MashaAllah good work done Abbasi sb ! Keep it up ! Stay blessed , Aameen 💖🌷

Please correct word ALLAH in your comment
Firstly The new tracks must be required for train to reduce time period. Otherwise new trains and coaches will be of no use. How can we develop new tracks , plz work on it.
Good approache. Kindly start a fast train from karachi via multan or sher shah to layyah upto rawalpindi.
Main railway ka regular musaafir hun, Mujhe samajh nahin aati k bina track change kiye yeh FAST TRAIN kaise chala lein ge? Road per chalani hai kya? Awaam ki liaqat ka itna mazaaq? Sharam aani chahiye
