The Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority has made the teaching license examination a mandatory requirement for hiring teachers across the province.
The decision was taken during the authority’s 19th board meeting, chaired by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah.
Officials, including School Education Secretary Zahid Ali Abbasi and other board members, attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stated that only candidates who successfully pass the Teaching License Test will now be eligible for recruitment.
He emphasized the need to strengthen teacher training and professional standards, adding that Sindh is taking progressive steps in education reforms.
The board also reviewed proposed amendments to the Teaching License Policy 2023. Key changes include introducing new subject specializations at the secondary level, launching a bridging course for one-year BEd graduates, and incorporating Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) into the licensing framework.
A committee has been formed to improve the accreditation process for institutions offering ECCE diplomas. The panel will evaluate curriculum standards, academic quality, and training facilities to enhance teachers’ professional capacity.
Officials confirmed that the first Elementary Level Teaching License Test has already been conducted successfully. The next phase, covering secondary classes (Grades 6–12), is scheduled for September.
Authorities also plan to hire a third-party testing agency to ensure transparency. Candidates will be required to secure at least 50% marks to qualify, while a separate quota will be introduced to promote licensed teachers.
