Smart Traffic Signals to Be Introduced in Karachi

Karachi is set to introduce smart traffic signals on major roads as part of efforts to improve traffic management across the city.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Karachi Traffic Management Company chaired by Mayor Murtaza Wahab, which was attended by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Municipal Commissioner Abrar Jaffar and DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah.

According to an official statement, participants reviewed multiple proposals and agreed to move forward with the installation of advanced traffic signals while keeping all stakeholders involved.

The mayor said improving traffic management could help resolve several urban issues, adding that work will be carried out on both road infrastructure and signal systems.

Under the plan, smart traffic signals will be installed on key roads, with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation leading the deployment on I.I. Chundrigar Road. Authorities also approved a plan to convert M.A. Jinnah Road into a smart road, with Rs. 20 million allocated for the project.

  • Smart traffic signals are welcome, first please ensure the smart road network.

  • Installation of smart Traffic Signals on more than 70% deplorable roads of Karachi city is not the solution to improve traffic congestion. Please improve the road conditions first !!

    • Though it is need of time to build new roads but as we know our leaders very well so we urge not to build new roads, instead (at least) fill up the holes / patholes on roads so the traffic should flow rather then crawling on roads. After that go for installation of smart signals and camera
