Pakistani All-Rounder Under Investigation After Positive Drug Test

Multan Sultans’ star all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is being investigated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he reportedly returned a positive test for recreational drug use during the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

According to a report, the development has also derailed Mohammad Nawaz’s proposed move to Surrey for the upcoming T20 Blast in England.

The left-arm spinner had been expected to join the county side for the tournament after the PCB granted him a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) earlier this month, but the deal is now understood to have fallen through.

A PCB spokesperson said the International Cricket Council (ICC) had informed the board about the matter and that the PCB had started the due process. The spokesperson added that the outcome of that process would be communicated to the ICC.

The reported positive result is linked to testing carried out during the T20 World Cup, where Nawaz featured in all seven of Pakistan’s matches. The 32-year-old scored 15 runs and took seven wickets during the tournament.

Despite the reported investigation, Nawaz has continued to feature in domestic action and remains part of Multan Sultans in the ongoing 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11). He most recently bowled three overs in his side’s win over RawalPindiz in Karachi.

The ICC has not publicly commented on the matter, while Surrey has also not issued a statement.
