VIP Movement Triggers Key Refinery Shutdown, Causing Fuel Supply Fears

Attock Refinery Limited has shut down its main crude distillation unit with a capacity of 32,400 barrels per day after a sudden disruption in oil tanker movement, raising concerns over fuel supply and refining operations.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the company said the shutdown was triggered by the suspension of oil tanker traffic to and from the refinery due to the expected arrival of foreign delegates in Islamabad, which led to traffic restrictions.

The disruption has directly affected crude oil receipts and product dispatches, creating operational constraints across the refinery. As a result, inflows of crude have dropped significantly while the movement of refined products has also been restricted.

The company said stocks of Motor Spirit and High Speed Diesel have increased significantly due to dispatch constraints, even as crude supply to the refinery declined because of ongoing road closures.

Due to these conditions, Attock Refinery has temporarily shut down its main crude distillation unit, known as HBU I, until there is an improvement in traffic conditions and normal supply routes are restored.
