Electricity Loadshedding Could Get Worse in Coming Days

Pakistan has issued a heatwave warning for several parts of the country which has raised concerns over increased power demand and potential strain on the electricity system.

The National Disaster Management Authority has warned that an intense heatwave will affect Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan, with conditions expected to persist until May 5.

Extreme temperatures could push electricity demand higher, increasing the risk of power shortages at a time when the country is already facing energy supply challenges linked to global disruptions.

Pakistan has faced severe consequences from heatwaves in the past, including a deadly 2024 episode that caused hundreds of deaths and widespread health emergencies which highlights the growing impact of climate change on the country.
