The federal government on Monday approved fresh financial support for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to help clear outstanding employee-related liabilities, including salaries, pensions and medical payments.
According to a statement issued by the Finance Division on today’s meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the committee considered a summary from the Ministry of Defence regarding the financial requirements of PIA Holding Company Limited.
Out of a proposed Rs. 5.985 billion allocation, the ECC approved funding specifically aimed at settling medical bills, pension dues, and salary disbursements of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL).
The decision was taken to ease immediate financial pressure on the struggling national carrier.
The committee also directed that a related matter involving payments to the National Insurance Company Limited be reviewed with the relevant revenue authority for adjustment, in line with audit recommendations.
