Telcos Submit Data to PTA for Making Call, Internet Packages Much More Expensive

Telecom companies operating in Pakistan have submitted the required data to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in response to its request to re-adjust mobile and internet packages amid rising fuel prices that are increasing operational pressures across the sector.

According to details, the companies have formally presented their proposals for potential adjustments in mobile and internet packages. The submissions followed meetings between telecom representatives and PTA officials, during which the issue of rising costs was discussed in detail.

The operators stated that higher fuel prices have significantly increased their operational expenses, particularly due to the heavy energy requirements needed to run and maintain telecom networks nationwide. They argued that without adjustments in tariffs, sustaining service quality, infrastructure maintenance, and network expansion could become increasingly difficult.

The telecom sector, which relies heavily on continuous energy supply, has been affected by sharp increases in fuel costs. Companies claim that fuel prices have surged significantly due to global market instability, placing additional strain on operational budgets. Rising diesel costs in Pakistan have further contributed to increased expenses for backup power systems used at telecom sites.

In light of these conditions, telecom operators have requested regulatory flexibility from PTA to revise tariffs ahead of the usual review cycle. Under standard regulations, tariff adjustments are typically allowed after a fixed period; however, companies have sought early approval, citing extraordinary cost pressures.

The PTA is currently reviewing the submitted data and proposals. A decision regarding possible tariff adjustments is expected in the coming days after a detailed assessment of cost impacts and consumer considerations.

  • It’s already expensive. Cost for all bundles / cards has already gone way up. The signal quality has degraded as they switch off random towers to save cost. Should not be allowed by PTA

  • the best thing for internet users is to switch to broadband internet at there home and office sim ka internet wesy bhi nai sai chalta or packages itny bekar k faida hi nai. main tu sim sirf calls k use krta hun.

  • Telco services are already very poor in quality and expensive. But like every opportunist, they want to exploit further under the guise of iran US conflict. Also, they already should have adopted alternative energy sources like solar. But the people who run them are greedy as hell. I have stopped opting for mobile data as it doesn’t work most of the time and there is no grievance redressal. They can’t provide up to 4g and now want to loot us in the name of 5g

  • Ufone has pathetic voice quality and spotty coverage. When is PTA going to look at this shoddy service and force them to fix their issues.
