Google has introduced a new AI-powered search feature for YouTube called Ask YouTube. The experimental tool is available starting today through June 8 for Premium subscribers in the US who are 18 or older.
The feature is currently in its testing phase and will be released to a wider audience later.
How The Feature Works
Users must first enable the feature through their account settings. After activation, a new Ask YouTube button appears in the search bar.
The tool provides prompt suggestions, or users can enter their own detailed queries. Google gave the example of asking the service to plan a three-day road trip between San Francisco and Santa Barbara.
After receiving results, users can ask follow-up questions or choose suggested prompts to continue exploring the topic.
Video And Text Results
According to The Verge, a test using the prompt “short history of Apollo 11 Moon Landing” returned a summary of the mission along with related videos and timestamps.
Follow-up questions produced similar responses, although some searches only returned a list of videos similar to a traditional YouTube search.
Accuracy Concerns
The Verge also reported that one query related to the Steam Controller produced inaccurate information.
The report noted that AI-generated responses can still face factual accuracy issues.
