The Division Series Quietly Gets a Free Game on PC

Ubisoft has quietly launched Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence on PC with limited publicity and no major prior announcement.

The free-to-play title was first announced in 2022 as a mobile game on iOS and Android on March 31.

Early Access Release

According to Ubisoft, the current PC version is an early access release intended for technical testing ahead of the game’s official PC launch in August.

The move gives players an option beyond mobile devices, although Ubisoft had not previously indicated that a PC version was planned.

Ubisoft had repeatedly described the game as a mobile-focused experience.

In earlier messaging, the company said its goal was to bring The Division universe to mobile so more players could enjoy the open-world experience whenever and wherever they wanted.

The sudden PC release has led to speculation that the game may not have attracted enough mobile players, although Ubisoft has not commented on that possibility.

Reviews of the mobile version have been mixed. The Sixth Axis praised the game’s variety of modes and said the looter shooter progression remained enjoyable. However, the outlet also criticized the menus, clunky gamepad controls, and bugs.

PC System Requirements

Because the game originated on mobile, the PC requirements are relatively modest. Even running the game at higher presets for 2K and 4K at 60fps lists ages-old GPUs such as the GTX 1660, RX 5500 XT, etc.

At present, The Division Resurgence on PC is available only through Ubisoft Connect.
