Karachi’s Feels-Like Temperature Gets Near 50°C as Heatwave Intensifies

Karachi is facing intense hot and humid weather as the temperature reached 40°C, while the feels-like temperature climbed to 46°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Officials said high humidity has made the weather feel much hotter than the actual temperature. As a result, residents are facing increased discomfort across the city.

The Met Office said sea breezes are blowing at a slow speed, which has added to the hot and humid conditions in Karachi.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a heatwave alert for the city. It has also advised relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to reduce the impact of the heatwave.

K-Electric has said it will avoid loadshedding during the hot weather. The power utility said it is prepared to maintain electricity supply as demand rises across Karachi.

K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana said the company is ready and committed to ensuring a sustainable power supply for the city. He added that field teams are on alert for quick restoration in case of faults.

However, he also urged citizens to monitor weather conditions and follow heatwave safety guidelines. Rana said KE remains in contact with civic agencies and will cooperate as needed.

He said all public utilities should stand together during the heatwave and represent Karachi’s resilience.

The power company said shutdowns have been suspended during the heatwave. It added that 70% of Karachi is already exempt from loadshedding.

The heatwave comes at a time when electricity demand usually increases due to higher use of fans, air conditioners and cooling appliances. Authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor movement and take precautions during peak heat hours.
