Sindh Allocates Rs. 13 Billion for Karachi Road Repairs

The Sindh cabinet’s finance subcommittee on Monday approved multiple funding measures worth billions of rupees to address Karachi’s persistent urban infrastructure issues, including roads, drainage and sewerage.

The meeting, chaired by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, approved Rs. 13 billion for road rehabilitation across 24 town municipal corporations (TMCs), covering reconstruction of damaged roads, patchwork and upgrades of key arteries to improve traffic flow.

A separate allocation of Rs. 364 million was approved for urgent repairs to the aging sewerage pumping station in the Korangi Industrial Area, where drainage problems intensify during rainfall.

The subcommittee also sanctioned Rs. 1.26 billion for a 32-inch pipeline along the Lyari Expressway to strengthen the drainage system and reduce water accumulation in the city.

Officials said the measures aim to curb urban flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, while additional funds have been approved for repair and upgrading work at schools, courts and hospitals to improve service delivery.

The meeting also reviewed financial requirements of various departments and progress on ongoing schemes, directing authorities to speed up implementation.

Nasir Hussain Shah said resolving urban challenges remains a priority and instructed departments to ensure transparency, quality and timely completion of projects, warning against any irregularities in the use of funds.
