Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit accusing the company of misleading iPhone buyers in the US about the launch timing of its upgraded Siri assistant, according to the Financial Times.
The lawsuit centers on Apple’s presentation of a more personalized Siri experience alongside Apple Intelligence during WWDC 2024.
The proposed settlement, which still requires court approval, would apply to US buyers of the iPhone 16 series and the iPhone 15 Pro.
The lawsuit claimed Apple suggested the upgraded Siri experience would launch in 2024, but the feature has yet to be released almost two years later.
Apple’s settlement proposal does not require the company to admit wrongdoing related to advertising AI features that were not delivered.
Apple gradually released several Apple Intelligence features throughout 2024 and 2025, including text editing tools, image generation features, and ChatGPT integration.
However, the upgraded Siri assistant, designed to understand on-device context and perform actions inside apps, was delayed.
Apple publicly confirmed the delay in March 2025, more than five months after the launch of the iPhone 16 lineup. The company had promoted the iPhone 16 series as devices capable of running Apple Intelligence features.
Following the delay announcement, Apple removed advertisements released before the iPhone 16 launch that showcased the upgraded Siri functionality.
Apple is now reportedly planning to release the upgraded Siri later this year.
According to reports, the new version will rely in part on a partnership with Google, allowing Apple to use Gemini AI models. The updated Siri assistant and additional AI features are expected to arrive with iOS 27.
