Faisalabad to Introduce Plastic-Free Zones in Major Markets

The district Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has announced plans to establish plastic-free zones in Faisalabad’s major markets as part of a stronger campaign against plastic pollution ahead of World Environment Day on June 5.

Deputy Director EPA Usman Azhar said the initiative follows directives from provincial authorities and includes stricter enforcement measures along with a complete ban on plastic bags below 75 microns.

Speaking to reporters, Azhar said the campaign is aimed at reducing environmental hazards caused by single-use plastics and promoting cleaner commercial areas across the district.

He said the EPA significantly increased its enforcement activities during the past year. From 2025 to date, the department conducted 14,002 inspections covering industries, brick kilns, plastic markets, hospitals, anti-dengue sites, and areas affected by fugitive dust.
