Lahore Police have launched a new security mechanism for online taxi services, introducing stricter verification measures for drivers to improve passenger safety.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said individuals with criminal records will not be allowed to work as drivers for online ride-hailing services under the revised system.
Police authorities have made character certificates mandatory for all online taxi drivers as part of the new policy.
Under an agreement signed between Lahore Police and major online taxi companies, complete driver data has been linked with police systems to help identify suspicious individuals more effectively.
Officials said every new driver will undergo mandatory police verification before recruitment, while records of existing drivers are also being reviewed.
Police authorities have instructed ride-hailing companies to ensure full implementation of the new security policy and warned of strict action in case of non-compliance.
