Govt Plans Home-Based Passport Application Facility for Citizens

The government has decided to introduce a new facility that will allow citizens to apply for passports from home, as part of efforts to modernize the existing passport system.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Director General Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa, which was also attended by the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) technical team. Several key approvals were granted during the session.

Officials carried out a detailed review of the current passport system and discussed a range of reforms aimed at aligning it with modern requirements.

The meeting focused on upgrading the system through technology-driven changes and improving the overall process for applicants.

Participants were also briefed on plans to introduce new technology in line with the interior minister’s vision and update existing policies to make them compatible with a digital system.

During the meeting, it was formally decided that citizens will be provided the option to apply for passports while staying at home, a move that could make the process more convenient and reduce pressure on passport offices.

The latest step signals the government’s push to digitize public services and simplify access for citizens through technology-based solutions.
