PCB Set to Hand Over Major Stadium to PSL Owners

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to transfer the operational control of Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad to the Kingsmen Group as part of a major redevelopment plan for one of Pakistan’s historic cricket venues.

According to reports, the process has faced delays due to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and his packed schedule. However, discussions between both sides are continuing.

Hyderabad Kingsmen owner Fawad Sarwar believes the redevelopment work can be completed within the next four to six months once the agreement is finalized.

The proposed project includes major infrastructure upgrades at Niaz Stadium, along with the construction of a five-star hotel and a high-performance centre in Hyderabad. Once finalized, Kingsmen Group will fully manage and operate the stadium.

The redevelopment is part of a broader PCB effort to upgrade cricket infrastructure across Pakistan. Earlier, the PCB and the Sindh government agreed to jointly renovate Niaz Stadium to international standards, with planned improvements focusing on pitches, the outfield, dressing rooms, practice facilities, lighting systems, hospitality areas, broadcasting facilities, and overall matchday operations.

The project has gained additional importance after Niaz Stadium became the home ground of the Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise following the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) expansion to eight teams earlier this year.

Established in 1961, Niaz Stadium is regarded as one of Pakistan’s iconic cricket venues. The ground has hosted five Test matches and seven ODIs, including the opening match of the 1987 Reliance World Cup between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The stadium has also witnessed several historic moments in cricket history. Pakistan pacer Jalaluddin recorded the first-ever hat-trick in ODI cricket at the venue against Australia in 1982, while former Pakistan captain Imran Khan played the final ODI of his career there in 1992 before leading Pakistan to its World Cup triumph later that year.

Pakistan has never lost an international Test or ODI match at Niaz Stadium. Legendary cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Javed Miandad have also played at the venue over the years.
