Resident Evil Requiem Gets Free New Game Mode ‘Leon Must Die Forever’

Capcom has officially released Leon Must Die Forever, a new free game mode for Resident Evil Requiem.

The company announced the update through its official social media channels alongside a short trailer.

According to Capcom, the mode challenges players to clear multiple stages as Leon while unlocking exclusive enhancer abilities. The developer also confirmed that the mode includes several difficulty settings, including an extreme difficulty option aimed at experienced players.

New Arcade Style Gameplay

Capcom said Leon Must Die Forever becomes available after players complete the main story.

The new mode shifts away from Requiem’s slower survival horror gameplay and introduces a faster arcade-style structure with stronger enemies, randomized upgrades, and progression systems between runs.

The mode appears to take inspiration from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard’s Ethan Must Die mode, which featured roguelike elements, randomized loot, traps, and great difficulty gameplay.

Early player impressions shared on Reddit suggest the mode includes campaign areas connected through special red doors, along with upgrades that significantly change combat mechanics.

Some reported perks allow players to ignite enemies through parries, increase headshot damage at the cost of removing parries, or focus entirely on melee combat with unlimited hatchet durability and reduced firearm damage.

Players also reported unlockable higher difficulty tiers, new costumes, additional weapons, meta progression systems, and optional Leon voice lines. One costume reportedly transforms Leon into a furry-themed outfit.

Mixed Community Reaction

Player reaction to Leon Must Die Forever has been mixed. While many players welcomed the new mode and immediately began experimenting with different builds and runs, others said they were hoping for story-focused downloadable content instead.

Some players also expressed interest in additional content centered around the character Grace.

Capcom has previously confirmed that more content, including a story expansion, is currently in development alongside the newly released minigame mode.
