Pistachio exports from Iran have surged sharply this year and set a new record for growth in the sector, according to the country’s foreign affairs office.
Iran’s Agriculture Ministry says pistachio shipments increased by more than 250 percent compared to the same period last year from around 1,500 tons to 5,363 tons.
The ministry said the jump is one of the strongest short-term increases in agricultural exports despite the financial toll of the US-Israel war against Iran.
Pistachios are a key non-oil export product that plays an important role in Iran’s agricultural economy.
The rise is being viewed as a sign of resilience in export performance despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and external pressure on Iran’s economy.
Iran remains one of the world’s leading pistachio producers, and the crop continues to be a major source of foreign exchange earnings alongside oil and gas exports.
