Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated Marka-e-Haq Square at Rawalpindi’s Kutchery Chowk, formally opening the major signal-free corridor project for the public.
The well-known Kutchery Chowk has officially been renamed Marka-e-Haq Square. The project was built to ease traffic pressure at one of Rawalpindi’s busiest junctions.
After the inauguration, Maryam Nawaz visited the signal-free corridor and inspected the overhead bridge and nearby roads. She also reviewed the Annexe Chowk to GPO Chowk signal-free project.
Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Sohaib Ahmed Bharath briefed the chief minister about the project. He said more than 200,000 vehicles would be able to pass through the signal-free corridor daily.
The project includes flyovers, underpasses, and pedestrian facilities. The Rs. 19 billion Kutchery Chowk Remodeling Project includes two flyovers and three underpasses. It was originally planned for completion in 18 months, but was completed well before the deadline.
Under the project, the Kutchery Chowk flyover and underpass have been named Marka-e-Haq, while the Jinnah Park flyover and underpass have been named Jinnah Underpass and Flyover. The third underpass has been named Iftikhar Janjua Underpass.
Officials said the project also includes a state-of-the-art pedestrian bridge at Marka-e-Haq Square. The chief minister said the signal-free corridor would change Rawalpindi’s urban traffic culture.
The corridor is expected to reduce traffic congestion around Kutchery Chowk, which connects several key routes in the city. It will also help improve travel time for commuters moving through one of Rawalpindi’s most crowded traffic points.

Another waste of public funds. Who’s gonna pay the bill for its repair.
