Govt Reduces Gwadar Port Charges to Attract More Ships and Trade

The federal government has announced major tariff reductions at Gwadar Port in an effort to increase international transit traffic and strengthen the port’s position as a regional logistics hub.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said berthing charges for container vessels have been reduced by 25 percent, while port charges on international transshipment containers have been cut by 40 percent.

He added that port charges on transit container cargo have also been reduced by up to 31 percent. In addition, the government has introduced one month of free storage for general cargo, replacing the earlier facility of five free days.

The maritime affairs minister said ships carrying transit and transshipment cargo would receive significant operational relief under the new tariff structure. He added that Gwadar Port was now offering record incentives compared to other national ports as part of the government’s broader strategy to transform Gwadar into a regional trade and logistics center.

According to the minister, the revised tariffs are expected to lower operational costs for shipping lines, increase cargo handling activity at the port, and support wider economic activity in the region.

Gwadar Port Chairman Noor ul Haq Baloch said the tariff reductions would help promote maritime trade and create employment opportunities in Balochistan. He added that the new tariff structure was expected to attract greater shipping and commercial activity to the port.
