The Federal Constitutional Court has dismissed a private bank’s appeal and ordered the return of money to a citizen who was defrauded.
While hearing the case, Justice Aamer Farooq observed that hackers often operate within banking systems and it is the responsibility of banks to ensure their systems are secure and robust.
The case involved a resident of Layyah whose bank account was hacked in 2022, resulting in the withdrawal of Rs. 1.534 million.
During the proceedings, Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that he himself had also received calls from fraudsters, highlighting the growing scale of cyber scams.
The court upheld the citizen’s claim and directed the bank to refund the stolen amount.
