Karachi will now be able to host car racing events at night following the installation of LED floodlights at an autocross track in a private housing society on the Super Highway.
The facility has been described as Pakistan’s first super floodlit sports track, allowing competitions to be held during both daytime and nighttime hours.
The more than two-kilometer track has been equipped with 100 light towers, 300 LED lights, and four high-mast towers.
A drag-racing track has also been developed at the venue. The 400-meter strip can host 200-meter side-by-side races, with two cars competing at the same time. Vehicles taking part in drag races can reach speeds of more than 250 kilometers per hour.
A modern timing system has been installed at the finishing line to accurately record race timings.
In the first phase, the track has been opened for four major formats: autocross, side-to-side drag racing, drifting, and buggy ATV and remote-control off-road vehicle events.
The installation of floodlights is expected to support the growth of motorsports in Karachi, where many racing enthusiasts are unable to participate in daytime events because of work, business, and other commitments. Night competitions may also help organizers avoid intense daytime heat.
A 2.5-kilometer service line has also been built around the track. Fire brigade, ambulance, and immediate medical assistance facilities will remain available during events.
The facility has space earmarked for 100,000 spectators, along with a food court, accommodation, a service area, and parking for vehicles brought from different parts of Pakistan before competitions.
