Pakistan Railways has reportedly decided to outsource the operations of 15 passenger and express trains in an effort to improve services and operational efficiency.
The approval was granted during a meeting held at the Railways Headquarters in Lahore, according to reports aired by 24News HD TV on Wednesday.
The trains reportedly included in the outsourcing plan are:
- Hazara Express
- Awam Express
- Karachi Express
- Millat Express
- Bahauddin Zakariya Express
- Farid Express
- Karakoram Express
- Ravi Express
- Lasani Express
- Thal Express
- Sukkur Express
- Mianwali Express
- Sialkot Express
- Faiz Ahmad Faiz Express
- Narowal Passenger Train
Railways management has directed interested companies and parties to submit bids by May 25, 2026.
According to sources, previous outsourcing attempts failed because of operational inefficiencies and policy issues within Pakistan Railways.
The private sector had also reportedly expressed concerns over benchmark conditions and financial requirements that exceeded annual revenue expectations.
Officials from the railway’s commercial department are now reportedly making another attempt to attract private operators for managing train services.
