Punjab Announces Railway Modernization Project

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that 1,600 kilometers of railway tracks across Punjab will be modernized under a major railway upgradation project aimed at improving connectivity and transport infrastructure in the province.

She said more than 80 million citizens are expected to benefit from the initiative.

The remarks were made during a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi on Monday, where both leaders reviewed progress on the upgradation of eight key railway routes in Punjab.

The meeting also included detailed discussions on the proposed Lahore-Rawalpindi fast train project, which is considered one of the province’s major transport initiatives.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said the railway routes are being upgraded under the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after studying some of the world’s best railway systems.

She stated that the upgraded routes would help connect different regions of Punjab and strengthen transportation links across the province.

According to officials, the project includes the upgradation of Shahdara to Narowal, Narowal to Sialkot, Lala Musa, Malikwal, and Sargodha railway routes.

The plan also covers Faisalabad to Chak Jhumra and Shaheenabad, as well as Shorkot and Jhang railway sections.

Other cities and areas included in the railway modernisation project are Sheikhupura, Jaranwala, Raiwind, Pakpattan, Lodhran, Kot Addu, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

  • Missing lines are Rawalpindi Jand, Miawali,Kundian Bhakkar,Multan.
    This is one of the most neglected track.Which needs attention of CM.

    • Thal Express was such a failure. There just isn’t enough demand on that route.

  • Double track is required as a top priority between Lahore and Wazirabad as most of main line trains get late between this section due to single track crossings.
    No bridge is required to construct on this route and every train will save at least a hour due to this 57 miles track out of which 5 miles between Lahore and Shahdara is already double

  • Is Railway provincial or fedral department? Why Head quarters of Railway not shifted to Islamabad like so many federal GQ from Karachi shifted to Islamabad?

  • مین لائن 2 شامل نہیں ہے جنڈ ،میانوالی بھکر والی لائن جس میں تھل ایکسپریس اور مہر ایکسپریس چلتی ہیں ان کی حالت بھی بہت خراب ہے اور اس لائن پر سفر بھی حد سے زیادہ لمبا ہو جاتا ہے کیونکہ ٹرین کی رفتار بہت کم ہے برائے مہربانی اس لائن پر توجہ دی جائے تاکہ لوگوں کے لیے آسانی پیدا ہو سکے

  • There must be railway track restoration project instead modernization which should include Mandra to Chakwal railway track. A large number of population is deprived of this facility. This should be connected with Khushab Sargodha and on the other side with Mianwali so that maximum population can be benefited with this traveling facility.CM sahiba should pay special attention towards this issue.

  • Yeah there is need of tracks upgradation
    Specially the shorkot jhang section
    And ml1 upgradation and doubling of tracks
    The ml 1 i saw is under upgradation in sindh .They are installing new rails and sleepers
