Sindh High Court Orders Provincial Govt to Launch Laptop Scheme for Students

The Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court has directed the provincial government to introduce a laptop policy for students in the next financial year’s budget and finalize a laptop scheme within 45 days.

In its written order, the court directed the chief secretary to consult all relevant institutions and give final shape to the scheme within the stipulated timeframe.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Amjad Ali Bohio and Justice Ali Hyder Adi said education under Article 25-A of the Constitution must remain aligned with the needs of the modern age.

The court observed that digital devices are no longer a luxury but a basic necessity in today’s world. It said students of schools, colleges, and universities should be provided laptops strictly on merit.

The Sindh government has also been ordered to submit a compliance report by August 4 on the implementation of the court’s directions.

The written verdict was issued on a petition filed by Advocate Sohail Memon.
