Dell Announces Its Cheapest Alienware Gaming Laptop Yet

Dell has introduced the Alienware 15, lowering the starting price of its Alienware gaming laptop lineup to $1,299.

Before this model, buyers needed to spend at least about $1,700 for an Alienware laptop, although Dell’s regular discounts often reduced that price. The new Alienware 15 gives the lineup a cheaper starting point, but it also comes with several hardware tradeoffs.

Dell also announced two mainstream laptops, the Dell 14S and Dell 16S, which sit between its entry-level Dell laptops and the Dell Plus series.

New Lower Priced Alienware 15

The Alienware lineup now has three main tiers. The Alienware 15 sits at the bottom, the 16 and 16X Aurora models sit in the middle, and the 16 and 18 Area 51 models remain at the top.

The Alienware 15 comes with a choice of Intel and AMD processors. Buyers can also choose Nvidia RTX graphics from current and older generations, with options going up to the RTX 5060.

The laptop has a 15.3-inch IPS display with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, and 300-nit brightness. Dell uses an all-plastic chassis for this model.

Processor And Graphics Options

The processor choices include AMD Ryzen 200 series chips, with Ryzen 5 220 and Ryzen 7 260 options. Intel models use Raptor Lake chips, including the Core 5 210H and Core 7 240H.

Dell said it will add Ryzen AI 400 series processor options soon.

The GPU options include the RTX 3050, RTX 4050, RTX 5050, and RTX 5060. Dell limits the power of these graphics chips to manage heat. The RTX 3050 and RTX 4050 run at 70 watts, while the RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 run at 85 watts.

That is lower than the Alienware 16X Aurora, which has been tested with an RTX 5060 running at 115 watts.

The Alienware 15 also misses out on the Aurora’s aluminum top panel, which adds more rigidity and a more premium look. It also drops the Aurora’s RGB keyboard lighting and uses basic white backlighting instead.

However, the laptop has some upgrade options. The RAM and SSD are not soldered to the motherboard, so users can replace or expand them.

Alienware 15 Pricing

The AMD-based Alienware 15 models start at $1,299, while the Intel-based models start at $1,349.

CPU GPU RAM SSD Price
Ryzen 5 220 RTX 4050 16GB 512GB $1,299
Ryzen 7 260 RTX 4050 16GB 512GB $1,399
Ryzen 7 260 RTX 5050 16GB 512GB $1,459
Ryzen 7 260 RTX 5060 16GB 1TB $1,849
Core 5 210H RTX 4050 16GB 512GB $1,349
Core 7 240H RTX 4050 16GB 512GB $1,449
Core 7 240H RTX 5050 16GB 512GB $1,509
Core 7 240H RTX 5060 32GB 1TB $2,299

These are US list prices. Dell often discounts its laptops, so lower Alienware 15 models may fall below $1,000 during sales. The laptop may also face pressure from the Alienware 16 Aurora, which has been discounted to about $1,200.

Dell 14S And 16S Details

Dell also introduced the Dell 14S and Dell 16S, a new mainstream laptop series positioned above its basic Dell laptops and below the Dell Plus line.

Both laptops use slimmer all-metal chassis. Dell lists both the 14-inch and 16-inch models at 0.6 inches thick.

The Dell 14S comes in frost blue and celestial blue. The Dell 16S uses a slim 16-inch design and is based on Intel’s Panther Lake processors.

Processor options range from the Core Ultra 5 322 to the Core Ultra 9 386H. The lineup also includes the Core Ultra X7 358H, which features Intel’s B390 integrated GPU with 12 Xe cores.

Display choices include IPS and OLED panels, with touch and non-touch options. Both laptops can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.

Despite the thin designs, Dell has included a wide port selection. Both models have two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack.

The Dell 14S and Dell 16S are available now. The Dell 14S starts at $1,270, while the Dell 16S starts at $1,320.
