GCU Proposes Mandatory New Course for All BS Students

Government College University Lahore (GCU) Academic Council on Tuesday recommended an open merit policy for BS admissions and approved several academic reforms, including the introduction of new degree programs and curriculum revisions.

The recommendations were made during the 36th Academic Council meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Omer Chaudhry. More than 70 faculty members, professors, and departmental heads attended the session, where over 30 agenda items were discussed.

According to the council’s recommendations, minor exceptions to the proposed open merit admission policy would only be allowed for subject-specific requirements or conditions set by accredited external councils.

The council also recommended nine new academic programs, including a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film and Media and an Associate Degree Program (ADP) in Computer Science.

In addition, the Academic Council proposed major revisions to BS curricula, including the introduction of a mandatory Artificial Intelligence course for students enrolled in all degree programs.
