Banks to Remain Open This Weekend for Tax Payments

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced special banking arrangements for the collection of government duties and taxes, directing designated commercial bank branches to remain open over the weekend to facilitate taxpayers.

According to an official notification issued on May 22, the decision was taken at the request of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to enable taxpayers to make over the counter payments of government taxes and duties. Under the arrangement, Saturday opening branches of all commercial banks, including National Bank of Pakistan branches handling customs collections, will remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on May 23 and May 24, 2026.

The central bank further directed banks to keep relevant branches operational for as long as necessary on May 24 to facilitate special clearing arrangements for government transactions conducted through the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) system.

SBP also instructed banks to ensure uninterrupted availability of digital payment channels, including internet banking, mobile banking applications, ATMs and other electronic platforms, allowing taxpayers to continue making online payments of government duties and taxes throughout the weekend.
