American officials have informed Iran in advance through multiple channels that President Donald Trump’s public posts about the peace deal are mainly intended for “promotional purposes” and media consumption inside the United States and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, according to a statement released by state news agencies.
The statement came after Trump claimed earlier that a peace deal with Iran would be announced “shortly” and that Iran would hand over its enriched Uranium to the US military.
US representatives have advised Tehran not to place too much importance on Trump’s public statements while negotiations advance behind closed doors.
Meanwhile, details of a proposed draft memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran have begun to emerge amid ongoing regional talks.
The proposed framework includes:
- Extension of the Iran war ceasefire for another 60 days
- Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire period
- Permission for Iran to continue oil exports freely during the agreement window
- Partial lifting of restrictions on Iranian ports and release of frozen Iranian funds
- US sanctions waivers on some Iranian oil sales
- A clause aimed at ending the Israel-Lebanon war
- Future negotiations focused on Iran’s nuclear program
The Kobeissi Letter wrote that the draft agreement also includes Iranian commitments not to pursue nuclear weapons, alongside discussions regarding a suspension of uranium enrichment, but it isn’t clear if the removal of highly enriched uranium stockpiles is part of the deal.
The negotiations remain fluid as diplomatic efforts through Pakistan continue across the region.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Trump’s efforts toward peace following a high-level telephone call involving leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, and Pakistan.
The premier said Field Marshal Asim Munir represented Pakistan during the discussions and described his role in the mediation efforts as significant.
He added that Pakistan hopes to host the next round of talks soon.
