Pakistan-Born Batter Smashes Second-Highest T20I Score

Peshawar-born Rwanda batter Hamza Khan produced one of the most remarkable innings in Men’s T20I history on Sunday, scoring an unbeaten 164 against Ivory Coast in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier.

The right-handed batter reached his 164 not out from just 65 balls. His innings included nine fours and 15 sixes, with a strike rate of 252.30. His 15 sixes are the joint fourth-highest number of sixes hit by a batter in a single T20I innings.

Hamza’s 164* is now the second-highest individual score in Men’s T20Is. It sits behind only Aaron Finch’s 172 for Australia against Zimbabwe in 2018.

The innings also moved him ahead of Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai, who scored 162 not out against Ireland in 2019. Hamza Khan’s knock helped Rwanda post a huge total of 288 for two.

The innings continued Hamza’s strong start to the tournament. He had earlier scored an unbeaten 60 against Cameroon in Rwanda’s opening match.

Ivory Coast were bowled out for just 17 in reply, which is the joint fifth-lowest total in T20I cricket. Rwanda won the match by 271 runs, the third-highest winning margin in Men’s T20Is.
