Google is working on a new Play Store feature that could alert users when installed apps have been removed from the platform.
Currently, Android users receive warnings through Google Play Protect when an app is flagged as harmful or high-risk. However, there is no direct notification when an app is deleted from the Play Store after installation.
Google may be preparing to change this. Users could soon be informed when an installed app has been removed from Google Play and will no longer receive updates.
The proposed warning appears to list affected apps and indicates that they have been taken down from the store. It also highlights the risk that such apps will stop receiving security patches or future improvements.
It remains unclear whether Google will also introduce a one-tap removal option for these apps, but the feature strongly points toward a more proactive cleanup system for outdated or abandoned software.
This comes after security researchers recently identified a large-scale ad fraud operation involving hundreds of apps that were downloaded millions of times before being removed from the Play Store.
If implemented widely, the new warning system could help users identify “dead” or unsupported apps already installed on their devices and encourage safer app management across Android devices.
