Buying or Selling Foreign SIM Cards Can Land You in Jail With Massive Fines

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public warning stating that the sale and purchase of foreign SIM cards within Pakistan is illegal and punishable under the law. The regulator urged citizens to refrain from engaging in such activities, emphasizing that violations could result in serious legal consequences.

According to the advisory, individuals involved in the unauthorized trade or use of foreign SIMs may face a range of penalties. PTA highlighted that unlawful activities related to foreign SIM cards can undermine regulatory compliance and may be subject to strict enforcement measures.

The authority stated that legal action can be initiated against violators, with potential punishments including imprisonment, heavy fines, and the disconnection of SIM services. The warning forms part of PTA’s efforts to ensure adherence to Pakistan’s telecommunications regulations and to curb illegal communication practices.

PTA advised the public to avoid participating in any activity involving the buying or selling of foreign SIM cards. The regulator stressed that compliance with telecom laws is essential and that violations may expose individuals to severe penalties under applicable legal provisions.
