Sindh High Court Reportedly Suspends State Bank’s Alleged Termination of Woman With Rare Heart Condition

The Sindh High Court has reportedly suspended the termination order of a woman who was allegedly removed from her job by the State Bank of Pakistan after it was found that her heart is located on the right side of her body.

The case was reportedly filed by Iman Gulzar, who approached the court through a constitutional petition after the State Bank allegedly terminated her employment on medical grounds.

According to the petition, the bank allegedly dismissed her only because her heart beats on the right side instead of the left.

The matter was heard by a constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Muhammad Saleem Jessar and Justice Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro.

During the hearing, the bench expressed strong displeasure over the bank’s decision. The court observed that having the heart on the right side is a congenital and normal condition, and that a person cannot be declared unfit for employment merely because of a unique medical condition or physical structure.

“The placement of the human heart on the right side is a congenital condition and can be entirely normal,” the court observed.

The court suspended Iman Gulzar’s alleged termination order with immediate effect and directed the State Bank administration to send her for training without delay.

The bench also issued notices to the Governor of the State Bank and other relevant authorities, directing them to submit their replies.

Further hearing of the case has been adjourned until August 2026.
