Samsung’s First Wide Foldable Spotted in Public for the First Time

Samsung is expected to launch its next foldable phones in July, and new leaked images have now shown what appears to be the company’s rumored wide-screen foldable in real life.

Images shared on South Korea’s DC Inside community forum show a Samsung foldable phone being used in public, according to Beebom Gadgets. The device appears to be covered in a protective anti-leak case, which hides most of the final design.

Leaked Images

The leaked unit still shows a noticeably wider shape compared with Samsung’s usual Galaxy Z Fold design. The form factor appears closer to a passport-style foldable, which would make the device shorter and wider than the current tall and narrow Galaxy Z Fold models.

9to5Google also noted that the leaked device matches earlier dummy units and renders showing Samsung’s new wider foldable design.

The phone appears to have a dual rear camera setup. This is different from Samsung’s higher-end foldables, which usually carry a triple camera system.

Possible Galaxy Z Fold 8 Name

Recent leaks suggest Samsung may market the wider foldable as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Meanwhile, the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7 could launch as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Gadgets 360 noted, citing recent leaks.

Earlier reports had referred to the wider model as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, but the latest naming leak suggests Samsung may use a simpler name for the new form factor.

Samsung has not confirmed the names, launch date, or specifications for either model yet.

Display and Camera Leaks

Leaked renders suggest the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 may feature a 7.6-inch inner display. Beebom Gadgets also listed a 5.4-inch cover screen based on current leaks.

Camera leaks point to a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera on the back of the wider Fold model, according to Beebom Gadgets.

Expected Launch

Samsung’s next foldables are expected to launch in July, though the company has not made an official announcement.

If the leaks are accurate, Samsung could use the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series to split its foldable lineup into two different designs: a wider model for users who want a more compact tablet-like layout, and an Ultra model that follows the taller Galaxy Z Fold format.
