The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) continues to expand its Graduate Program, offering young professionals from developing countries the chance to gain hands-on experience in international development work.
Launched in 2021, the initiative aims to strengthen workforce diversity, build organizational capacity, and develop a strong pipeline of future leaders for the global development sector.
Selected candidates are placed in UNDP country, regional, or headquarters offices for a two-year assignment.
Strong Global Interest and Deployment
The first two cohorts of the program received an overwhelming response, attracting more than 75,000 applications from over 145 UNDP program countries.
Successful candidates have been deployed across various duty stations, including Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean, Europe, and the United States.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a national of a UNDP program country
- Hold a master’s degree with up to one year of relevant work experience, or a bachelor’s degree with two to three years of experience
- Show strong interest in international development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Demonstrate skills in systems thinking, innovation, or digital tools
- Be fluent in English; knowledge of French, Spanish, or Arabic is an advantage in some roles
- Be willing to live and work abroad for two years
Program Streams
The Graduate Program offers two main career streams:
- Program and Policy: Focused on development projects and field-level initiatives
- Corporate Operations: Focused on organizational support, management systems, and policy processes
Training and Career Growth
Participants receive a customized training journey designed to enhance professional skills, expand knowledge, and provide real-world exposure to global development challenges.
The program also serves as an entry point into the wider United Nations system.
