Islamic New Year Holiday Announced in UAE

The United Arab Emirates has announced a public holiday for both government and private sector employees to mark the start of the new Islamic (Hijri) year.

According to UAE media reports, the holiday has been confirmed by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, making all public and private sector employees eligible for a day off on the occasion.

The holiday will be observed on 15 June across the country, giving millions of workers the opportunity to enjoy a long weekend.

Authorities said the holiday is part of the UAE’s regular practice of observing key Islamic festivals and national occasions, during which both citizens and expatriate workers benefit from official time off.

The announcement is expected to lead to increased domestic travel and family gatherings as residents take advantage of the extended break.
