FDE Announces Summer Sports Camp for Students

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and the Pakistan Sports Board, has announced a summer sports camp for schoolchildren at the Pakistan Sports Complex during the summer vacations.

The camp will run from June 15 to June 25, with training sessions scheduled from Monday to Thursday. Officials said the initiative aims to promote physical fitness, healthy recreational activities and sports development among students through coaching at international-standard facilities.

A total of 114 selected students will participate in six disciplines, including volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, cycling and hockey. Girls will attend sessions from 7:30am to 9am, while boys will train from 9am to 10:30am.

According to officials, the morning schedule has been designed to reduce students’ exposure to extreme heat while encouraging productive use of the summer break.

However, the decision has drawn concern from some parents and school principals, who questioned the timing of the camp during one of the hottest periods of the year. They warned that younger students could face health risks due to high temperatures and urged organizers to ensure adequate safety measures.

Parents called for the provision of drinking water, shaded rest areas, first-aid facilities and medical staff at all venues, along with close monitoring to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
