The UAE’s annual midday work ban will come into effect on June 15, restricting outdoor work under direct sunlight and in open-air areas during peak afternoon hours.
According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the ban will remain in place until September 15 and will apply daily from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The measure, now being implemented for the 22nd consecutive year, is aimed at protecting workers from heat-related illnesses during the summer and ensuring safer working conditions across the country.
Companies will be required to provide shaded rest areas for workers during the restricted hours. They must also ensure the availability of cooling equipment, including fans, along with sufficient drinking water and hydration supplies.
The ministry said certain activities will be exempt from the ban where work cannot be stopped for technical reasons. These include asphalt paving, concrete pouring that cannot be delayed, and emergency repairs needed to restore essential services such as water, electricity, and traffic flow.
Work that requires permits from specialized government authorities due to its impact on public life and movement will also be allowed under the exemption.
Companies violating the ban will face a fine of Dh 5,000 for each worker found working during the restricted hours. The total fine can go up to Dh 50,000 if multiple workers are involved.
